Rangers continue to Battle

In the competitive world of MVC baseball the Rangers continued to battle.
On Monday April 13th the Rangers fell to CCHS 7-2. Isaac Rivera limited the powerful cadillac attack to 4 earned runs over 7 innings of work.
On Wednesday April 15 the Rangers fell in a heartbreaker 5-4 at Billerica. Due to shoddy fielding the Rangers found themselves trailing for most of the game, but rallied to tie the game in the seventh. Sean Madden held the Indians at bay for 2 innnings before surrendering a walk off home run on a very good curveball.
Cal Carrol continued his early season mastery on the hill. Cal limited Billerica to 2 hits and no earned runs in 6 innings of work.  Matt Richardson lead the offense with 3 hits.
On Monday April 20th the Rangers rallied from 2 down to win an exciting contest over Billerica 3-2. Isaac Rivera, once again was masterful, scattering 7 hits and one earned run over 7 innings. This time the Ranger defense, lead by Cal Carrol and Nick Fabrizio was stellar, turning two double plays.
Trailing 2-0 in the 6th, Dillion Johnson lead off with a bloop single. Eric Bajor, pinch running, stole second and scored on Kenny Polanco's seeing eye single. In the bottom of the seventh, Cal Carroll reached on a catchers error. Alex Shepherd bunted him over to second.  Matt Richardson followed with a double in the gap to tie the game.  Mike Eyssi , pinch hitting in his first varsity at-bat,  slapped a fastball into the gap, scoring Richardson with the winning run!!
The Rangers now stand at 2-3.

Rangers even slate at 1-1
After starting the season with on the wrong side of an exemption game against St. John's the Rangers split their first two games of the season.
Haverhill 13 MHS 3
Spotty starting pitching dug a deep hole for the Rangers. Despite two hits from Alex Shepherd and some power from both Tim Higgins and Kevin Miller the home nine fell hard. Shoddy fielding and even worse pitching doomed the Rangers. Isaac Rivera was the one bright spot on the hill, allowing only two earned runs in 4 innings of relief.
MHS 5 Dracut 4
Bouncing back the next day the Rangers, behind six innings of no-hit twirling from sophomore Cal Carrol, the home nine held on to defeat Dracut 5-4 in a non-league contest. Kevin Miller got the Rangers off to a fast start with a deep 2 run homerun in the first inning. It was Miller second homerun in two days ( his last swing of the last game and his first swing of this game!) Dracut managed to tie the score 2-2 in the 5th after some poor Ranger fielding. In the top of the sixth, Kevin Miller executed a perfect push bunt , followed by a walk to Tim Higgins. Kenny Polanco deposited the next pitch approximately 450 feet to deep center.  Junior Sean Madden came into to close the game in what turned out to be a wild bottom of the seventh. It was Madden's first pitching apperrance in High School and his first save.

Kid Koerner delivers against Tewksbury
Rangers defeat #1 ranked Tewksbury
On a day made for baseball, the Ranger nine put together a tremendous effort in downing previously undefeated Tewksbury 6-4 on Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY. Prior to the game Tewksbury was ranked #1 in Eastern Massachusetts by the Boston Globe
David "Kid" Koerner was superb, scattering 4 hits ( 2 infield hits) and 2 earned runs ( his first two earned runs of the season) against the vaunted Redman attack. Senior catcher Steve Saba came up big in the clutch with two hits and three rbi's, including a game tying double in the top of the fifth. Kid Koerner's two out single in the fifth drove in pinch runner Eric Bajor with what turned out to be the winning run. Jhiomar Veras continued his torrid hitting going 3 for 3. "Cap" Cote and Kevin Miller turned in outstanding defensive performances for your hometown heroes. (SEE PHOTO ALBUM FOR SOME CANDID PHOTOS OF OUR TRIP)
